More than 10,000 gathered in Coventry and Wolverhampton to parade through the streets with many donating to a number of charities.
On Sunday, April 20, 2025, Wolverhampton’s streets came alive as thousands gathered to celebrate Vaisakhi with the annual Nagar Kirtan procession. The event, commemorating the formation of the Khalsa in 1699 by Dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, is a significant occasion in the Sikh calendar.

A Vibrant Procession
The Nagar Kirtan commenced at 11:30 AM from the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara on Sedgley Street. The procession moved through Bromley Street, Dudley Road, past Phoenix Park, and onto Wolverhampton Road. Participants sang hymns, displayed Sikh martial arts (Gatka), and distributed free vegetarian meals (langar) to onlookers, embodying the Sikh principles of service and community.
Community Engagement
The event attracted a diverse crowd, including families, local residents, and visitors from surrounding areas. Stalls offering cultural artifacts, information about Sikhism, and community services lined the streets. Children enjoyed activities and performances, while elders shared stories of faith and tradition.
